Carly is ready for school

Carly, our family's self proclaimed late sleeper, has again entered the world of academics. This means getting up at 6:00am, not her more recently accustomed time of 9:00am. Dad then drives Carly to her new school in Plano, which is near our new house. Carly loves her new school. The Principal, Mrs. Baker, is a former colleague of Mom from Ss. Peter and Paul in Naperville.

United Way Sculptures in Naperville

This year, the annual Napeville United Way sculpture event featured Garden Sculptures. This included Garden Fairies, Toadstools, and Butterflies. This year, the schoolhouse Toadstool was on Cindy's "must see" list. I will admit, it was pretty cool. After we leave Naperville this year, we may have to still make an effort to check out the sculptures every summer.

mmmmm.....cake........

Margaret is now one year old, and has had her first birthday cake. Actually, it may not have been her first, but the symbolism is still there. Her birthday was 8/5, but her party was 8/13. The party brought Godfather Dan, Godmother Chelsea, Grandpa Jim, Grandma Shirley, and their assorted families to our house for the day. Margaret enjoyed her cake, gifts, and playing with new people (once she got used to the idea that they were not going home right away)

We have ceilings!!

Well, the Flexicore ceiling is done. Now, when you walk into the building, you actually see a ceiling, not blue skies. The day went great. Mr. Carlsson made a special trip back from his vacation in Colorado to oversee the job. We will be forever grateful for all he has done to make sure this project has been done right. Next, we will be watching the progress as the roof is assembled, to be quickly followed by interior utilities and walls. Carly starts school next week, so it will be getting a bit more hectic, if that is possible.

Are the lines straight?

Well, the windows are in, and the brick has started. However, not without a few issues. The original brick we ordered, and received, was defective. That is if you expect your bricks to all be the same height and length. Also, right angles would be nice. The variations in size and shape are too numerous to describe here, but suffice it to say, they were unusable. With that conclusion, we faced the choice of reordering (6 weeks at the earliest delivery) or looking at another available brick. We checked on, and eventually went with, our 2nd choice of brick. It was delivered 6:00 A.M. the next day. Actually, the brick looks nothing like the sample we saw in the showroom, and I think they look better.
